Himalayan Oasis
In July 2009 I travelled to Ladakh amongst the peaks of the Indian Himalayas and volunteered at this amazing local charity called Mahabodhi Devachan MIMC. Mahabodhi has grown from hostile high altitude desert land. It is a \\\'Himalayan Oasis\\\' founded by a Buddhist monk, Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena. It comprises of hostels and schools for underprivileged children, many of whom are orphaned or from very remote areas. There are also centres for meditation retreat, yoga, a charity hospital providing Western and Tibetan medicine, school for the visually impaired and an old people\\\'s home. It is a unique place of humanitarian and spiritual activities. Venerable Sanghasena\\\'s vision is to create an environment combining education, spiritual development, humanitarian and environmental projects and self sustainability. This has been born out of compassion for the welfare of the Ladakhi people. Every year many children are turned away because Mahabodhi can\\\'t accommodate the many numbers in need. It relies on donations, volunteers and an income generated during the short summer season from the retreat centre. This video is the result of the fantastic experiences that I had at Mahabodhi. I hoped to capture the many contagious smiles and wonderful personalities to show that these children have been given brilliant opportunity through holistic education, and a real chance to find happiness and build a brighter future. I\\\'d encourage anyone who travels to Northern India to visit Mahabodhi. Go see for yourself and give them your support… \\\'Compassion in Action!\\\' www.mahabodhi-ladakh.org Added: 203 days ago From robG global.duration: 420.00 Views: 309 | Comments: 0 |
